10 Artists´Quotes on Their Secrets to Success
Being an artist is hard. It is probably one of the hardest jobs out there because they’ve chosen a career that is often without insurance, regular pay, or set hours. So being a successful artist requires a special kind of mettle with an extra amount of dedication, tenacity, grit, and thick skin. Successful artists have proven themselves to have what it takes so, no matter what your profession, it would be wise to pay attention to what they deem important to success.
1. Pablo Picasso
“Action is the foundational key to all success.”
Simple enough: more doing and less observing, less talking, and less waiting.
2. Georgia O’Keefe
“To create one’s own world takes courage.”
“I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life – and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.”
Don’t let your fears control you. Find the courage to put them aside and work on your dreams despite them.
3. Leonardo da Vinci
“The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.”
We are often our own worst critic but we must find a way to overcome the voices in our heads. At least the negative ones. Invite the others to a party in your head.
“I think that if you shake the tree, you ought to be around when the fruit falls to pick it up.¨
See it through to the end. Even if the tunnel is dark and there is no light to be seen, do not give up before the fruits of your labor ripen.
5. Vincent Van Gogh
“What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”
Just starting can be one of the greatest hurdles. If you don’t start there’s no way to fail. Except there’s no way to succeed either. Just do it!
“As long as I live I will have control over my being.”
We have the ability to control what we do with what we have.
Do not forget to enjoy the journey in life. Love the process as well as the results.
8. Andy Warhol
“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”
Don’t wait for the good things to come to you. Do the work that makes the good thing happen.
9. Salvador Dali
“Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it.”
Perfection is a myth you will always be chasing. Or more accurately, there will always too much work to be done to get to perfection. Do the best you can and move on!
10. Norman Rockwell
“The secret to so many artists living so long is that every painting is a new adventure. So, you see, they’re always looking ahead to something new and exciting. The secret is not to look back.”
Always seek new experiences. Success is not always a linear path. Those circuitous routes we take not only enliven us but enhances our skills. Skills that can be called upon in the most unexpected ways.
Take it from artists; they know what they’re talking about because they’ve taken the path less traveled. They’ve taken the harder road and succeeded because of it!
