laos
The first place we traveled to was Laos. Astor was one and a half and I was pregnant with Antigona. We lived in Luang Prabang for three months.
We really liked our time there and have very fond memories. We went back to visit this year and it was wonderful. It’s where I started learning how to travel. I was a newbie and just starting out as a travel blogger.
THAILAND
We’ve lived in both Bangkok and Phuket. The Phuket stay last a bit over two years. Bangkok, on the other hand, was like a hub for us throughout the 7 years in Asia. We also traveled around the country north and south.
Thailand has been really important to the kids. It has shaped how they see the world. Antigona was born in Bangkok and she still answers, “Thailand” when asked where she’s from.
INDONESIA
After two years in Thailand, we traveled to Bali and stayed for 10 months in a cute house in Denpasar. While in Bali the kids attended a wonderful Montessori preschool.
I love the Montessori curriculum and the educators were wonderful. Not to mention the relaxed school environment.
We got to know Bali quite well, and also explored other destinations in Indonesia.

SRI LANKA
We lived two long years in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The spice island is a great two-week travel destination but totally different when it comes to living there. People from around the world fall in love with Sri Lanka all the time.
We had a hard time. Especially when it came to the school system. The kids attended a private school for a year and we were quite dissatisfied. Since then, we have been deschooling, unschooling, homeschooling and every schooling under the sun.

When our time in Asia was almost up, we stayed in Vietnam for three months in order to get our bearings together. In Hanoi, Hoi An, Hue, and Saigon we rebuilt this site and set Gonzalo up with his personal project.
The kids continued
We discovered lots of amazing food and plenty of history in Vietnam. It was way more than we expected.

singapore
During our time in Asia, we had to do plenty of visa runs which would turn to weekend getaways. Singapore was one of our favorite destinations. We also spend our last three days in Asia in Singapore.
The kids ate lots of Hainanese chicken and Bakuteh. We got to see the Jewel complex which is the largest indoor fountain in the world. It’s part of the Terminal 1 at Changi airport and is a true spectacle.

Another of our destinations when doing visa runs and getaways, is Malaysia. We have been to Penang a couple of times and to Kuala Lumpur as well.
Gonzalo went to Malacca as well on a trip on his own. We still feel like there is lots to discover in Malaysia still. But that might have to wait until we go back to Asia in the future.
